The wide receiver position will continue to be the talk of the offseason. A lot of weight is on the shoulders of the current Penn State football receivers and Marques Hagans. To not only maximize the talent in the room but also to recruit the best players in future recruiting cycles for the Nittany Lions. Hagans has already accomplished that by securing 2025 recruiting class-wide receiver Lyrick Samuel who was recognized as the Under Armour Next Camp MVP on Monday.

Penn State football WR commit wins Under Armour Next Camp MVP

Lyrick Samuel made his commitment official to the Penn State football team on February 19th, 2024. On3 currently lists the Brooklyn, New York native as the No. 1 player in NY in the 2025 recruiting class. He also currently holds a four-star ranking which he works to improve on each week.

That improvement will be shown if Samuel keeps attending camps this summer. Over the past weekend, Samuel attended the Under Armour Next Camp in Hackensack, NJ. A camp that featured some of the top football recruits in the Northeast, Samuel was named a wide receiver co-MVP. He shared the award with Syracuse commit Terrell Wilfong.

National scouts are starting to recognize Samuel

It’s clear that Samuel has started to separate himself as one of the best 2025 recruiting class members. The Nittany Lions need someone who can join the roster and elevate the room which is something he can do in 2025. Charles Powers, the Director of Scouting for On3, recently praised the Penn State commit.

“Lyrick Samuel has a lot of things going for him the more I learn about him. First off, he should be a 2026 guy, age-wise. He’s extremely young. So, when you look at his development, it totally makes sense. This guy is 16 years old, and he’s getting better and better at a rate that’s probably a little faster than some of the other receivers that we’ve known about for a while.”
