Arsenal have positioned themselves right back into the 2023/24 Premier League title race with a thrilling win over title rivals Liverpool recently and it appears that they are now looking to solidify the future of a player who didn’t even play in that game, which is Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Arsenal Agree Takehiro Tomiyasu Contact Extension

Takehiro Set To Extend Emirates Stay

Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Japanese defender’s contract has been agreed and sealed between both parties and that he is now set to sign a new long-term deal that will keep him at the Emirates Stadium for many years to come.

The journalist adds that this is a decision that was wanted by both members of the Arsenal board as well as the manager. They never entertained the idea of potentially losing Tomiyasu in the recently concluded winter transfer window. Romano states that an “announcement to follow soon”, which should seal the deal once and for all.

The Gunners have reported to be working hard on a contract extension for the versatile defender for quite a few months and it seems that they might have finally found a breakthrough. Tomiyasu spent the majority of January playing in the AFC Asian Cup for Japan, but is now set to return to duty for Arteta’s side after being eliminated from the competition.

Arsenal Continue Retaining Key Members Of Arteta’s Squad

The Gunners have been working smartly behind the scenes to tie down their important first-team squad members to long-term contracts over the last year or so. They were able to lock in the likes of captain Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba all to long-term contracts last year to ensure that they can be an important part of Arteta’s long-term project going forward.

Now it appears that the Spanish manager wants Tomiyasu to be a part of his squad for the long haul after being impressed with his performances. Arteta hailed Tomiyasu as “terrific” earlier this season, with the 25-year-old having made 20 appearances for the Gunners this season, in which he’s scored one goal and contributed three assists.
